You obviously enjoy your work when you’re being tied up. What is about being tied up and in a submissive role that is fun and/or made you pursue more work in that genre?
A few reasons actually. As odd as it may sound, I find bondage to be very relaxing. I tend to be a bit high strung and always on the go, so when I'm bound and gagged tightly, I can relax because there isn't anything else I could do at that time. So it's like a mini escape, a vacation from reality and all the stress and chaos in the world and all that matters is what I can feel at that time, the ropes against my skin, the nylons on my legs, the way the high heels hold my foot at just the right angle, and the gag keeping me quiet. Another reason is that I was a pretty hardcore athlete, so the challenge of trying to get around in the bondage or seeing exactly what my body can handle in some of the predicaments is a lot of fun and lets me feed that competitive side I have. Struggling around in bondage is also one of the best ab workouts I've ever done. Lastly, I was a big bondage fan before I started modeling and this allows to me meet and get bound by some people that I've admired over the years and some new very talented riggers.
Are there any aspects of modeling that are not fun for you? If yes, please explain.
There are always going to a few things that aren't perfect, but overall, I love my job. I have allergies and pretty sensitive eyes, so putting on and wearing heavy make-up can be a bit taxing on my allergies. I tend not to wear much make-up when I'm relaxing at home. From time to time when I'm doing long photography shoots with lots of flash bulbs, I sometimes get headaches from the flashes. Both of those are pretty minor overall though. I think the hardest thing is that you have to learn not to take things personally as a model. I've been called too fat, too skinny, too fake looking, too girl next door, too short, and so many other things. When you put yourself out there as a product, you have to accept that people are going to attack that product.
What was the first bondage site you visited? And what led you to check out that site in the first place?
The first bondage side I visited regularly was reading BDSM erotica [online] and letting my imagination fill in the gaps. I had AOL at fourteen, so I was able to do searches and find images that later lead me to the photo sites. I was familiar with Jim Weathers from Bondage Cafe when he was The Weatherman, if that tells you anything . Jim, Cory, Dominic Wolfe & Jay Edwards were some of the first images I really checked out (Having worked with 2 of them now is still surreal to me). But the searches lead me to them. Tight bondage, good gags, hosiery, high heels, latex, Leidermeister leather gear . . . so many things to fall head over heels in love with. When I discovered [other bondage sites] it opened up this other side of bondage that wasn't really pretty and fluffy; it was mean and rough and it intrigued me.
How would you defend the BDSM lifestyle if asked to do so?
I'm a bit confused as to why it needs defending. People should be able to make their own life choices. I feel that consenting adults should be able to do whatever they like in that realm. If you want to tie up your partner, or tickle her, or throw a pie in her face, go for it. Have fun in your life and don't be afraid to go outside of the box because of what the world may think. I’ve met so many people who were too afraid to experience BDSM when they were younger and are just getting to try things for the first time in their 50s and 60s. I can't help but think about how many memories and experiences they could have had. I hate that it is something that is still seen as bizarre, even though it is becoming more accepted and more mainstream every year. Just because you like to be bound or whipped or humiliated doesn't mean that you are a freak; it means you have some kinkiness and it's not a bad thing. Not all BDSM is Masters and slaves and 24/7 whips and chains. It's different for everyone. There are no set rules for how to do it. Find what works for you.
There is something very intense and very intimate in BDSM relationships. The power exchange can be almost intoxicating. Letting yourself be vulnerable to someone, putting your well being in their hands and trusting that they will take care of you and bring you to a place you couldn't get to on your own, letting you experience something amazing. I don't know of anything else that can give you that feeling. It's like a dance between the players with each giving and receiving in unison.
All of that being said, I do feel like there has been a shift in the lifestyle. There are a lot of people that joined after reading Fifty Shades and expect life to be like the book. It's not. Nothing is ever like the book. A BDSM relationship, just like any other relationship, is hard. It requires work, effort, understanding, and trust. It's not an instant thing. There are also a lot of predators in the lifestyle that are looking for people with low self-esteem that they can walk all over under the name of a Dominant or Mentor. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. Being a sub does not mean you are a doormat.
What was it like for you when you first realized that you had fans?
Odd. Very odd. I'd spent my life being a fan of some of the models and producers/
photographers/riggers in the business, so to find out that I had fans of my own, people who saw what I did and liked it enough to let me know it, was amazing and inspiring. I love hearing from fans about what they like in the videos, about certain scenes, models, story ideas, etc. Like I said, as a model you put yourself out there and you can get ripped to shreds, so getting positive feedback means a l
You’ve worked for many sites and been tied up many times. What could a producer do creatively to make a shoot more appealing to you?
I just like to have fun at shoots. A producer who has an idea of what he wants to do and is excited about it is enough. Everyone has something to bring to the table. Some of my favorite shoots have been with private collectors who are doing it because they just LOVE it that much. If someone is excited about the shoot, it’s contagious. One of my favorite things to hear from a producer is that they've had this idea they've wanted to try but they had to wait for someone who could handle it. I love a challenge and have gotten to do some amazing shoots because of it.
That said, I do like trying out new gear, new gags, and new clothing items I've never tried before, but mostly I like seeing what they plan to do with me. When I worked with KevininRI of Straitjacketed.com and got to try out the latex leggings, the ballet splints, and lots of tight straitjackets, it was awesome. When I worked with Jim Weathers, I got to wear an amazing Leidermeister armbinder and bondage set. I could go on and on about all the amazing things I've gotten to do in the past five years doing this. It's been a wild ride
What are some of your favorite outfits to model in?
I like it all. I love playing dress up. I have to say that I've fallen in love with catsuits in the past few years (and luckily people seem to like me in them ). I still want to get a latex one, but the PVC ones I have, I love. I also really enjoy getting to do retro looks with satin gloves and girdles. Pencil skirts, shiny blouses, leather, latex, jeans, boots, disco pants, pantyhose, high heels . . . the list goes on. I don't know that I have favorite particular outfits since I tend to wear various combinations and things cycle in and out rather quickly. Aside from my catsuits, I rarely wear the exact same outfit twice.
You model and produce videos for your BoundBeauties site. Is it hard to direct, produce and star in your own clips? What challenges are there to being both the producer and star of the videos?
It's difficult, but it's worth it. David [David Andrews] and I are pretty good about communication when it comes to the clip plots, but there are times when I've had an idea mid clip where I think, “Man, I wish he'd tie this, or oh, we should end it this way,” but if I'm already gagged, then I usually have to store the idea for later unless I can convey it in a few words or gestures. The bound and gagged charades games are always fun on set.
The thing that most people don't know is that the clips shot when it's just David and me, it was mostly shot with just the two of us in the building, so he is having to run the camera, deal with the lights, keep the plot going, make sure I'm okay in the bondage and the gag, and keep an eye on the time. It’ a tough gig. While he's doing all of that, I'm still bound and gagged and trying to do what I can to conserve energy while the camera is off and giving it my all as soon as I hear the beep again. So, while the video may only be 15 or 20 minutes, I may have spent almost 30-45 minutes in the tie. Doing several of those in a day is exhausting for both of us.
Sometimes things also start to feel stale. David and I have been shooting clips together for over 4 years now, trying to come up with new ideas or new twists on old ideas to do together can be hard sometimes. We work on a lot of storylines and series, but every now and then, we shoot a clip that is purely selfish. We do a clip that we want to do because I want to experience the tie or David wants to tie it and we get to be ourselves. While I love playing various roles, just getting to be myself as a girl who just likes bondage on camera is refreshing sometimes.
One of the hardest things though is that you get to see every mistake you made. I get to see it on the video when I've held my head facing away from the camera, or when I didn't keep my toes pointed, or when my eyes got too big trying to look scared for a damsel role. I used to pick apart every video clip, looking for what I could have done better, and there is always something I could have done better in my opinion.
What other interests do you have outside of working in the bondage industry?
I tend to do something until I feel I've learned it adequately and then move on to something else. I like learning and doing. Currently, I'd say my interests outside of industry stuff are softball (I prefer fast pitch, but play for my husband's slow pitch co-ed work team), reading, seeing random side road attractions, cooking, photography, and being outside when it’s warm. I like watching college football and baseball (GO PACK!) and don't know how I lived before Netflix. I'm also a bit of a geek, so I play with pivot tables in Excel for fun, and play Final Fantasy 14 when I have time. I love the beach at night and the mountains during the day. I find psychology and human behavior fascinating. I used to draw and had a piece win first in an art show. I can use a lathe and can do architectural and mechanical drafting in CAD/ I've shingled roofs, built showers, and can change my own oil. I believe in being as self-sufficient as possible and that people can learn whatever they choose to learn given enough time and practice. We only have one life, so why not try as many things as possible.
You and I often discuss books when we chat. What are you reading now and what book would you recommend everyone read? Why?
Currently reading: In paperback - The Silent Wife - just started it, only about two chapters in. On my table via Kindle - The Neighbors - I started reading this one two days ago and am about half way through it. It's eerie thus far. But the evil lady wears red high heels .
I listen to a LOT of Audio book via Audibles. My studio is a couple hours from my home and when I'm on tour, it's usually in a car so the audio books help the time go by because, while I love music, I can only listen to it for so long on a 10 hour car trip. So I'm currently finishing up Faithful Place by Tana French. It's the third in a series of four (so far). It's kind of a neat series about a Dublin murder squad and each book is about a different case and told by a different person on the squad.
All three books I'm reading right now fall along the murder mystery psychological thriller theme. A while back I went through an Arthur C Clake, Heinlein, Card, Sanderson kick and read a ton of Fantasy and Sci-Fi. Before that, I was on all sorts of vampires, witches, and werewolves, with a few biographies and non-fiction books thrown in the mix. I seem to go through phases.
For what I recommend, I'm going to skip all the classics like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, The Odyssey, Romeo & Juliet, etc. because I feel like those are just a given. If you didn't read them in school, you should. Some of them are actually really good.
I'm going to go with something a bit more modern. I think everyone should read American Gods by Neil Gaiman because, as a friend of mine described it, it's a modern Homeric epic, and it's wonderful. There are so many little things in the book that all click together once you get to the end. A guy whose wife dies the day before he gets out of prison meets a strange man and sets off on a journey that no one could have predicted across America and encounters a series of interesting characters and places. I don't want to give too much away because you really should just read it. (The tenth anniversary version is Gaiman's preferred text and is a bit longer than the original.)
Childhood's End (Clarke), The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (Heinlein), Ender's Game Series (Card), are all good sci-fi reads and force you to confront some things about how we treat one another and why. I have no idea how Card could have written a book about tolerance and yet been so intolerant himself, but I'll leave that for another day.
Other books I've read in the past year or two I found very entertaining, but I don't know that I'd recommend them to everyone : Game of Thrones (Martin - don't get attached to anyone, it's like Hamlet), Sookie Stackhouse Series (Harris - This series went a bit downhill but it started out so well. Not the best writing, but great story - what True Blood the TV show is based on), Gone Girl (and anything else by Gillian Flynn - She writes such dark books, but in an interesting and quirky way that I've fallen in love with. I quickly read all 3 books she has out and am waiting to read anything else she releases), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy (Larsson - I liked the first book the best, but the whole series is pretty good. It has some dark twists and things that just make you go “Oh . . . wow,” but worth it), The Supergirls (Madrid - If you like the ladies of the Super realm, read this. It's so interesting to see where they started, how they've evolved. It gives a bit of a history lesson while still being very entertaining), Stiff (Roach - Do not eat while you read this. It's about dead bodies, and what happens to people's bodies once they die. It goes over the various ways people choose to dispose of their bodies and what effects it has. It's pretty graphic at times, but if you are a practical person or a science person, read this book. Also, Mary Roach manages to take a subject like dead bodies and makes it entertaining, and actually made me change what I want done with my own body upon my death), Good Omens (Gaiman & Pratchett - This book was very entertaining. I laughed out loud several times listening to this book while I was driving on a tour. It's light hearted and fun), and Steelheart (Sanderson - I think this is technically targeted towards YA, but it's about people with superpowers and what happens when those people aren't the heroes, but are the villains. Again a good quick read. This is book one of the series.).
What are some of your upcoming projects?
I have never been able to sit still, so I always have new projects in the works. The biggest is probably a new guys next door bondage site I plan to start shooting for in February. I've looked at a LOT of bondage porn over the years, photos, videos, stories, novels . . . and there seemed to be this gap that no one was filling. Most of what I see of males bound goes pretty extreme with strap-ons and girls peeing on the guys, etc. I want to put something else on the table. I want to provide a product where the guy is tricked into bondage by his girlfriend, or perhaps he gets caught by the cat burglar. Something a bit more light hearted and damsel-esque. I do still plan to have a section of some light FemDom stuff, but, overall, I hope it has the same kind of feel as my BoundBeauties store.
I'm also developing a new character for a series I plan to do on both stores that involves a red catsuit and a superpower - though the character is still a villain
I'm also planning on starting to stock up on some more metal and leather gear. Some of the items I've added to my Amazon Wishlist. ut I'd like to expand the sexology series with more leather gear (head harnesses, straps, a body harness, leather ballet boots, metal stocks, etc.) and I plan on have a police detective series involving lots of handcuffs and other restraints as I acquire them.
Is there anything else you want your fans to know about you and your work?
I really appreciate all the support they've given me. It's been a crazy ride so far and hopefully I'll be able to do this for a long time. I love to hear from fans and they can email me at [email protected] if they have questions or comments. If they want a custom video, they can email me at [email protected] (it doesn't have to be bondage; I do lots of different fetishes). Overall, I'm just the girl next door who really likes playing dress up and then getting tightly bound and gagged. And the fact that I can do that as a job still amazes me. So thank you so much!
Rob, just out of curiosity, do you tailor the questions for the model and submit them to her all at once? While some of the questions are similar a lot seem to be as if you were in a conversation, some questions seem to follow in sequence as if it was a live Q&A.
With Serene, it was easy to come up with the questions and make it seem more like a conversation because she and I -- during times when each of us was less busy than we are now with work -- would spend hours chatting online with each other, sometimes day after day. We're both voracious readers too so we often talked about books as well as bondage and things happening in the industry. Some of my questions are sort of "standard" ones but I do try to tailor some of them to the individual model or to throw in some that happen to be on my mind as I am putting together the questions. I knew her thoughts on a lot of what I asked in the interview already and wanted to include them as questions she could answer because I thought they'd be of interest to people who read the interview.
I'm glad you enjoyed this one
