1. When did you create your first bondage drawing and what was it?

i think i was about 8 yrs. old...i used to draw funny animal versions of my favorite super-heroes (all of them looked like Snoopy), and from time to time, they used to rescue damsels-in-distress; the first time i drew bondage, just to draw bondage, i was about 16 yrs. old...no character in particular...just a woman in bondage...

2. How and when did you first realize you liked bondage?

i was a fan of DiD's for as long as i can remember...i grew up in the 60's, and LOIS LANE et al. were getting tied up and gagged everyday

...i hit puberty around age 13, and not surprisingly, i started having regular bondage fantasies about pretty girls i went to school with...so began the obsession of a lifetime...

3. Describe your creative process. What are the "tools of your trade"? And how do you decide what you will draw?

well, for me, the focus is really on creating the actual, physical bondage...ties that look tight and secure, and reflective of what you see in photos and videos...this requires me to take standard poser-style figures, and clothing, Example01 by loraxxx and add deformations to make them look as if they are effected by ropes; i also have to build the 3D props that replicate ropes, which i do one strand at a time...

once the bondage is built, then i can save it to a library, so i can apply it to a to any of my "characters"...i apply it to the model, and then i save the tied up model to a separate file...then i have a damsel i can drop into any distress i come up with...

which is generally the most difficult part for me...coming up with the distress--which is why i tend to collaborate with female fans...their fantasies inspire me...

4. Have you ever received any complaints that your artwork is offensive? If so, what in particular was the complaint about and how did you respond to it?

no...i've pretty much managed to dodge that bullet...now that i've mentioned it, i've probably jinxed myself...

5. Why do you think people (male and female) like seeing girls tied up and gagged in art?

i can only speak for myself, as i believe everyone's reason is different...
i like seeing girls tied up and gagged, because it sometimes makes me feel "funny" in my pants...and even before i started having those kinds of feelings, i still got a thrill seeing DiD's...the exact reason's why escapes me...

6. What bondage artists/cartoonists or bondage photographers do you admire, and have any of them influenced your bondage artwork?

first of all, i want to state for the record, that if i am following you here, or anywhere, it's because i respect and am inspired by whatever you are doing, especially if it's bondage related...that being said, my biggest influences are probably: Dave Annis, Ropexpert, John Willie, Jay Edwards, Dominic Wolfe, Steve Villa, Bob Bishop, and :iconsirjerrylone: -- he's the guy that taught me the most about building my own rope props, and i'm forever grateful...

7. Is there any one piece of your work are you most proud of and why?

not really...i usually start disliking any piece i've done pretty quickly after i've posted it...i'm just too aware of the things i wasn't able to do, to be perfectly objective about it...overall, i think i'm pretty good, but i don't have a favorite...  TUG 17--Pole Tied by loraxxx  my most viewed image, which i appreciate, greatly, because i'm sad man, generally starved for attention...

8. I first saw your work when you provided artwork for Blue Angel’s superheroine fiction (wayyyy too long ago)  blue angel3 by loraxxx How did you connect with Blue Angel? And is that “old” superheroine artwork available to be seen anywhere at present?

i believe it was through her yahoogroup--back before sites like deviantart, bondage people would congregate on several forum groups on yahoo; BA had one for her stories, i had (and still have) one for my art; a lot of my old work is still there, but the group is technically closed, so it's not really available...i could post some of it here, if there was enough interest, but i believe much of it violates DA's TOS...

9. When you create a bondage drawing, what part of the drawing is most erotic to you?

when i finally finish the costuming, and binding process...before i add a scenario, background, villain, all that...essentially when i have crafted an attractive woman, bound, gagged, and at my mercy...which as i type this sounds really, really creepy...

10. What is your policy on taking requests and/or commissions?

i try to stay away from kids, pRon, S+M, and guys...

11. What has been the most bizarre request for a commission that you have actually drawn? Have there been any commissions that were so “out there” that you declined to accept the commission (and if so, provide details of what was requested)?

i don't get a lot of bizarre commission requests...i don't get a lot of commission requests period...i think i charge may too much, but i also think i ask a fair price for what i give people--i just may be a luxury item...for the most part, the only requests i turn down are one's for GID...

12. You’ve been on DA for more than 13 years. What do you think are the best and worst features of the site?

i think it's a bit pricey, and they have some policies that just seem dumb and arbitrary...i also wish they had a better system for categorizing fetish art--it might prevent some artists from having to deal with people who don't want to see erotic art, and then complain or start reporting it...

13. Why did you join DeviantArt?

my mission, from day one, was to provide cheap bondage art for people, like myself, who are generally too poor to afford membership in a pay site...back in the late 90's, if you wanted to see bondage imagery of any kind, it cost you, and often it was not high quality, and infrequently updated with new content; when i joined DA, it was just another place to post...most of my work up until that time was in my aforementioned yahoogroup, or on the old AVGDID bbs...

14. If you could make one change to DA, what would it be?

i think i'd make it so that they embraced erotic art of all kinds more than they do currently...right now, i feel that that kind of work is tolerated, but not really loved by the people running the site...i could be wrong...it's just my feels on the issue...

15. What is your favorites movie, TV show, book, music, food, color, animal, type of bondage restraint, type of gag, and outfit to draw.

Snoopy Come Home, Batman, Dominic, TV theme songs, sushi, black, bear, rope, thick cleave, secretary outfit...

16. Is there a reason why you so rarely draw images that involve nudity or toplessness?

mostly, because few of my current muses want to be depicted that way, and i don't want DA to have any reason to mess with me...most of my more adult work is available on my tumblr, loraxxx.tumblr.com/

17. How did you come up with your DeviantArt username?

Loraxxx was the the name of a former roomate's cat--he was fat, dumb, and happy...i wanted to grow up to be just like him...

18. What else do you want people on DA to know about you and your art?

i hope the people reading this enjoy the art--spread it around, if you're so inclined, just try to make sure i get some credit...; i'm poor, so if i you want to help out, contribute to my patreon...otherwise, thanks for taking an interest, and feel free to drop me a line...thanks again, for taking the time to interview me, Rob...i am truly honored...

Today, I bring you an interview with another talented artist from DeviantArt, :iconloraxxx:

The art at the top of the interview was created by Loraxxx just for this interview, which is kind of neat.  I hope everyone will enjoy the interview and also check out his awesome DA gallery!

Great interview! I like his sense of self-deprecating humor...the mark of a confident and friendly person.

I've been following Loraxxx' art since 1999. Fell in love with at first sight, and still deeply appreciate his approach to bondage and to depicting damsels in peril. But i know what he means about having an increasingly hard time coming up with new perils. His approach...to let his muses do that work for him...seems like a terrific solution.

Kudos to both of you!

I really enjoyed this! :) , for both your interviews ( Rob ) , but also because in those pioneer days of the net , Loraxxx was one of those names that , like his art , got around and became a legit legend. :#1:  ... I still remember one of his piece's ( a gif ) that well impressed in ( I think I'm recalling the title correctly ) " Usagi Grope " , which I thought was amazing! :O_o:

Well done Indeed! :D

loraxxx was one of the first artists I found who was doing my kind of thing, and I've been following him ever since. By now he probably wishes I'd leave him in peace. :D

But seriously, you should interview Uber-Bear next. The coolest, bluest hero in town.

But really seriously, thanks for this, and congratulations to Mr. Zynishter (as I expect we now have to call him) for hitting the big time!

Very honored to learn that my humble hints have been so useful for his captures.
Dunno if his damsels share my point of view, though. ;)

I always like to discover creator's personalities through your interviews.
You've got a knack to get sincere answers. Now, as more and more people have read so many of your interviews, it's become like a ritual here in DA. People who answer are relax about it and quite candid like loraxxx here because they know your interest and friendly approach.
You always start with this very enlightening and exciting question about how the creator's fantasy started- whatever it is, but mainly BDSM, DID or Fetish.
Amazing how most males tell it did start at an early age from seeing so many women in distress in movies, comics or vintage posters. How it awed them. I don't remember one guy ever saying it started from a personal, real-life experience. Might be the biggest difference I spot with the female awakening into these proclivities.
He sounds like a nice person, humble, funny and smart.
Thanks again, Rob :) and thanks to :iconloraxxx:

Hi Berseh!  And thank you very much for the nice comment. I liked your observation but I have a vague recollection of someone among the female interviewees stating that their interest in bondage originated at a young age from seeing the likes of Daphne or some other cartoon damsel or heroine being tied up. From my perspective, I remember watching shows like Batman, Fantastic Four, Scooby-Doo, etc. hoping to see some damsel get tied up. Luckily, I liked most of the shows anyway because other than for The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, no one seemed to be getting captured and tied with any degree of regularity.

I'm glad that I've alerted you to one more talented DA artist  :)  Thanks, as always, for reading and commenting!!!

Thank you for the compliments; I think it's fairly common for guys to formulate their interests at an early age, whether it's for sports, Star Wars, or in my case, DiD...

You're most welcome. Compliments are sincere. You managed to convey something very personal, and I was touched.
What I meant concerning the early sexual interests is that for boys it seems most get it from pics or representations and not so much from an experience they would have personally lived.
Not to say mental, cerebral construction is absent in girl's approach (as you know, fantasy runs high!), but females very often can link it to a real life sensation that lit it.. Sorry if i can't explain myself more clearly withoutmaking a novel out of itArgh! Stupid writer's block.   :)
