CHAPTER 8
“OK Skully what do the forensic’s say?”
Mulder was doing his usual thing when actual work needed to be done. He was standing next to the black pick up truck they had found, abandoned in a bus station terminal, and watching Skully lift prints.
Naturally, Skully groaned, “Mulder did they like teach you how to do anything at the academy? You know it doesn’t take an M.D. to lift prints off a steering wheel.”
Lifting a good print was exactly what she managed. She now had several in her collection from the vehicle and via a scanner on her laptop she had already identified one print as belonging to the victim. This was definitely the right vehicle they had found. It was thrilling for a lot of reasons but not least of which was that they could rap this case up soon. That would naturally mean she could use her new found favors from this senator and get a more normal assignment.
After transferring the prints to copy paper she fed it into the computer and tapped the enter key. She crossed her arms and smiled, “Ok they’ll run them through the databases and see if we can get a match. Then we’ll know who our kidnapping suspect is.”
Now Mulder crossed his arms as had his partner. He was cocky again, “don’t kid yourself Skully. We’ll only know who belongs to those prints if they want us to know. I still think I should bring the Lone Gunmen in on this one.”
The smile vanished from Skully‘s face, “Mulder! The last time you called those nerds, somebody broke into my luggage and stole my underwear. NO!”
He shrugged, “have it your way Skully. I just need not remind you the little problem with this case. Like how was it we got assigned before it even happened?”
“Oh I’m sure you have a theory Mulder,” Skully fumed. Thankfully she heard the lap top gloriously announce, “you’ve got mail.” She called up her email window and was quite surprised to see how fast they had gotten a match. Naturally she had expected to get a confirmation back quickly on the victim. They already had her prints and had expected them to be as such. This search should have taken a lot longer since they were searching everything from the National Sex Offender registry to even Federal Employees.
Mulder had to ask, “you didn’t scan that for viruses did you? You know I heard that the Military Industrial Complex can infect your computer with a virus that lets them get ten percent off every porno site you use.”
Skully was busy ignoring her partner and reading the file they had, “well this is interesting.”
“What,” Mulder quickly looked to the computer screen, “known sex offender?”
The picture that went with the file made Mulder mumble, “you know if his hair was longer and styled he might just look like…”
“No,” Skully interrupted. “This came out of the Military files. Colonel Jack O’Neill, alias Jack O’Neal. United States Air Force and stationed currently at Cheyene Mountain in Colorado.”
Once again Mulder crossed his arms and became smug, “and where did the victims mother work?”
Skully growled, “oh shut up Mulder.”
