Day 15
The Street Firefight
7:40 PM
Nick had ignored the commands from Sandy and was taken into custody. The agents were forced to leave him restrained on site due to the threats from the residence building at 309 Meeting street. Inside the building, a lone operative, Becky recounted the initial assault that caused the defensive posture from the security police agents.
Rachel: I am leading the assault team of Deb, Monica and Stacy to assist Becky at the residences at 309 Meeting street. We gather about a block away in an alley between the streets. I tap my phone and call Becky. "This is Rachel, what is your status?"
Becky: I answer. "I am unharmed, on the third floor and I think I am the only one alive in the building. Plenty of ammo. There are two agents on the street looking toward the north and three at the south corner where the alley meets."
Rachel: Replying to Becky. "Good, we are two minutes away. Stay on the third floor and when we are in position I will give you the go code of 'Tuna'. At that point, I want you to fire to create a distraction."
Becky: "Understood."
Rachel: I look at my team. "Deb and Monica, head around from the north on Calhoun street. Stacy, circle back and approach from the South on Meeting street." I glance at Deb and back to Stacy. "Advise when in position."
Stacy: I nod yes and move out cautiously.
Deb: I tap Monica and we head out toward Calhoun street.
Becky: I set the safety and holster my own MAC-10 before unscrewing the suppressor from Alicia's. Crouched on one knee near a front window, I take a deep breath and wait for the others.
Sandy: I remain standing on the sidewalk between the two buildings keeping watch.
Anne: I cross the street and stand opposite from Sandy in front of the white portico columns.
Cheryl M.: I am at the corner of the residence building with my back to the alley and my gun ready.
Debbie: I am in front of the residence building standing in the entrance area.
Gwenda: I am on the sidewalk about 100 feet from the corner, watching Meeting street toward the south.
7:42 PM
Deb: I move silently alongside the wall of the white and tan building bank building, staying in the cover of the drive thru columns. I glance briefly at the man sitting, and see he is no threat, ignore him.
Monica: I follow Deb with equal silence and line up with my back to the wall cradling my MAC-10.
Deb: I push my back up against the wall and peer carefully around the corner then call Rachel. "Deb and Monica in position."
Nick: All the while I have sat, forcing my self to watch, frustrated that I'm not able to note down or record anything.
Stacy: I run silently along the sidewalk of Meeting street and take cover behind a brick column. I call Rachel. "Stacy in position."
Rachel: I am in the alley alongside the residences building and tucked behind a corner for cover. I can see two agents at the street end of the alley. "All operatives, Tuna!" Replying to the calls.
7:43 PM
Becky: I swing the MAC-10 and use it to suddenly break the window.
Cheryl M.: I spin around raising my gun and aim in the direction of the noise.
Becky: I look down and to my right firing a short burst at Cheryl M.
Cheryl M.: "Aiiaaaee" I let out a gasp feeling a slug go through my right abdomen. I stagger back along the corner of the building.
Becky: I pivot to my left and quickly fire a second short and staccato burst at Sandy. Sandy: I turn to my left and aim upward in the direction of the noise.
Deb: I sidestep quickly on to the side walk leveling my machine pistol at Sandy. I squeeze the trigger and the suppressed weapon sputters quietly.
Sandy: "Ahhhhhh, iiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeee" I gasp and shriek as the heavy bullets shred my guts and chest. I collapse on the sidewalk.
Nick: Even as the bullets fly I try to take it all in, reporter's instincts kicking in. Not that I can move, but I try not to make a sound or draw attention to myself.
Anne: I dash backward and take cover under the portico.
Cheryl M.: Still moaning in pain, I attempt to raise my right arm.
Becky: Wanting to be more than a distraction, I point the MAC-10 downward spraying the building corner with a long burst. Then seeing Anne backing off I immediately pivot back with a short burst.
Rachel: I see Cheryl M. is still a threat and step out of my cover to get a clear shot at her. I cradle the long suppressor in my left hand and squeeze the trigger until my MAC-10 clicks empty.
Cheryl M.: "Aiiaaaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" I scream as the slugs splatter me against the brick wall. My Beretta clatters on the alley. I buckle forward and crash hard going blank.
Rachel: I release the spent magazine.
Stacy: I step out from my cover and move quickly toward the residence building. I fire a long burst at Gwenda.
Gwenda: I turn about and run away from Stacy's fire. Just as I find cover in a building doorway near the alley, I see Cheryl M. get butchered and hear the empty magazine clatter on the alley.
Debbie: From the front of the residence building I fire three shots at Stacy. "Got you covered!"
Stacy: I fire another long burst and sidestep for cover. The bullets miss me.
Gwenda: I look to my left as I move across the alley. I aim at Rachel in a military stance firing three times.
Rachel: The bullets whiz past me as I spin about back behind my cover.
Debbie: I fire three shots at Stacy. "Okay, move now!" I order Gwenda.
Gwenda: I dash quickly to the cover of the front steps with Debbie.
Stacy: I fire a burst towards Gwenda again until my MAC-10 clicks empty.
Debbie: I fire four more shots at Stacy.
Stacy: I have already spun back for cover and released the spent magazine. The bullets hit the bricks I am behind.
Nick: The first death, then the second, make my heart contract, and Gwenda joins in.
Anne: I peek out from my cover and fire three shots in Becky's direction.
Deb: I sidestep quickly on to the side walk leveling my machine pistol toward where Anne is but can't get a good shot.
Monica: I peer around the corner behind Deb.
Anne: I turn, aim at Monica and fire three shots, then aim at Deb firing two more shots.
Monica: I see Anne's pistol and pull Deb back with me behind the wall. The bullets ricochet in the parking lot area near where the handcuffed man is seated.
Deb: I take cover behind the wall with Monica. My breathing is heavy causing my chest to heave.
Stacy: I reload my MAC-10.
Anne: I continue firing alternately at Becky and Deb until my Beretta locks empty.
7:44 PM
Stacy: I step out charging ahead firing a long burst at Gwenda until I reach more cover.
Anne: I reload my Beretta.
Gwenda: I stay behind cover and only a few bullets hit the bricks.
Deb: I peer around the corner.
Anne: I aim at Deb and fire two shots.
Deb: I spin back again as the bullets hit the bricks.
Anne: I fire two more shots, pause a second then fire three more shots.
Becky: I aim toward Anne's gunfire and fire a loud burst until my MAC-10 clicks empty.
Anne: The heavy slugs chew more of the bricks of the portico away. I hear the machine pistol cease and take aim at the window where Becky is.
Monica: I look at Deb and bite my lip.
Deb: I nod in agreement. I swing out again to cover Monica.
Monica: I step out quickly and run toward Anne G firing a long burst.
Anne: I turn to my right to face. "Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee" The heavy slugs punch into me knocking me backward as I fire wildly in the air. At least one hits my neck and I fall back into the portico. My world goes dark.
Monica: I reach the opposite side of the street and take cover in the portico where Anne was.
Stacy: I step out charging ahead firing a short burst at Debbie.
Gwenda: The glass shatters behind Debbie and me. I fire four shots at Stacy.
Stacy: The bullets miss me and I duck in the doorway opposite the alley for cover.
Debbie: "Aw, Fuck!" I curse quietly as my gun jams.
Gwenda: I fire two shots at Stacy then look at Debbie struggling to fix her gun.
Monica: I step out into the street and fire a short burst aiming at Debbie's head.
Debbie: I gasp as slugs hit my neck and head. My neck snaps back and drop lifeless to the ground.
Gwenda: I step out in a military stance aiming at Stacy, distracted for a split second by Debbie's fall.
Stacy: I step out at close range and fire a short burst at Gwenda's torso.
Gwenda: "Uhhhhaaaaaaa" I gasp in the intense pain from the heavy slugs. My chest destroyed by the onslaught. I fall silently forward face down.
Nick: As the bullets strike Gwenda, I open my mouth in a silent scream and tears spring to my eyes. But I watch, wanting to record it all. Four officers down, as far as I can see, and I assume that all four are fatalities.
