The transport descended through Corellia's atmosphere as it followed the flight path towards Coronet. Aboard it in the first class cabin Kesarah Dilligas sat back and enjoyed the last leg of her journey home. The young coral-pink Twi'lek Jedi smiled at that thought, home, it was something she truly appreciated about her situation. She hadn't had a place she truly felt at home in in ages. Even her childhood back at Ryloth had always felt confined by the expectations of others. She'd had to behave a certain way, do certain things and none of it was an expression of herself.
Here, on Corellia of all places, she felt far more at home than she had almost anywhere else. Able to express herself as she desired more than anywhere else and as the transport landed at the spaceport and she climbed into an aircab for her apartment she couldn't help the excitement building inside of her. She'd arrived back just in time for the one year anniversary for herself and her boyfriend Ka. They'd met just over a year prior and the following morning would mark the first full year of their relationship.
That wasn't what excited her so greatly though, she had spoken with her boyfriend and fellow Jedi Ka Han before boarding the liner home. They'd agreed to go out and celebrate their anniversary when she came home and she'd even known exactly how she wanted to do that. As a teenager she'd loved the group known as Pull My Lekku. They were something of a legend on Ryloth, a group of six girls that had managed to escape the prejudices and oppressions of Ryloth's society through the power of their voices and music.
They weren't young girls anymore, but Kesarah had loved them as a child and she still loved them now. That they were playing on Coronet in time for her anniversary with Ka felt as though the galaxy was for once looking out for her. She couldn't help but smile as she left the aircab with her things and walked from the landing pad to the apartment she shared with Ka. Opening the door she'd expected to find him waiting for her but there was no sign of him.
Her momentary indignation at his apparent negligence was interrupted by a gentle thought that filtered through her mind.
Upstairs.
Kesarah snorted, smirking as her lekku trembled with anticipation. What was Ka up to? He could be incredibly romantic when he wanted to be and wasn't making a fool out of himself and as she ascended the stairs to the bedroom they shared she tried to contain her excitement and manage her expectations. Entering the room she didn't see Ka anywhere which she imagined meant he was hiding. However her eyes immediately fell upon the bed and what was laying across it.
She didn't recognize the dress as one of her own, but as she walked to the bed and touched the burgundy colored velvet she couldn't help but smile. It was a pleasing color with textured patterns across its length. The long sleeves ran down to what looked like the elbow or so and it seemed that the neckline would hug her collar nicely.
“It's supposed to be rather cold tonight.” Ka said as he slipped his hands around her waist and kissed her neck. “I wanted you to be warm.”
“That's what you're for.” Kesarah responded as her body shivered in reaction to his sudden appearance. “Thank you for the dress though.”
She turned in his arms to face him, draping herself over his shoulders.
“Miss me?”
“Always.” he replied as he kissed her tenderly. I have something for you.
Aside from yourself? she replied to his thought playfully.
Ka disengaged himself from her, reaching down and producing something from his pocket which he held up to her. Kesarah's eyes widened in surprise as she gazed at the silver chained necklace. At its center hung seven diamonds, and not just any mere diamonds. She recognized the slightly purple hue from the jewelry of her mother.
“That's,” she took in a stunned breath. “Ka, those are Twilight Diamonds from Ryloth.”
“I know,” he said with a hesitant smile as he held up the necklace. “I used the income from our titles on Empress Teta to save up for it. I hope you don't mind.”
“Mind,” Kesarah shook her head in disbelief as she smiled at him. “Ka, it's beautiful.”
“Happy anniversary.” he said as he opened the clasp and made to place it around her neck.
Kesarah stopped him, placing her hand over his as she gave him an amused smile.
“Careful, I don't think you know what that means.”
She watched his face as he frowned, both seeing and sensing his confusion.
“I don't understand. I thought you liked necklaces?”
“I do.” Kesarah asserted. “But this one is, well...Ka if it were just some random crystal or something like that I could accept it.” she gave him a coy smile. “A necklace like this, you don't give it to someone on your anniversary. This is the sort of thing you give when you propose.”
She almost laughed at him as he stood there in apparent confusion, then she watched the realization and embarrassment spread across his features. She loved it. It wasn't often that she got to see him look so flummoxed.
“Oh.” he said stupidly. “I uh,” he looked at the necklace and then at her with a sheepish smile. “Sorry?”
Kesarah laughed, putting her arms around his neck and pulling him into a kiss.
Don't be. she murmured into his mind as they embraced tenderly. Just come to bed with me and show me how much you missed me.
As they let their passions intensify Kesarah watched as Ka put the necklace aside with a mixture of happiness and regret. A part of her—a very deep and frightened part of her—had hoped that maybe he was ready to do exactly what that necklace entailed. She supposed she'd settle for a new dress and a concert. As the moments passed she decided there was another, far more carnal matter, that she was perfectly content to settle upon as well. Besides, Ka had meant well and the look of surprise and embarrassment on his face had been all too dear a thing for her to ever pass up.
Coronet's waterfront park sat at the base of the sprawling metropolis' seaside, beneath the towering lighted skyscrapers that comprised the bulk of the city. In the center of it was an elaborate fountain comprised of various sharply angled troughs and drops amidst which spun a repulsorball, using the gravity influencing device at its core to pick up water from the fountain and distribute it throughout the various channels which fed back down to the base of the fountain. At the head of the park, facing the ocean, was a grand stage. Between the entrance to the park and the stage was a packed throng of beings representative of dozens of different species come to enjoy the performance.
The concert was set to begin soon and the various service droids positioned around the perimeter took careful note of each admission to ensure no one snuck in. A dark haired Human man with deep blue eyes dressed in a long sleeved green tunic and light brown pants approached one of these service droids alongside a coral-pink skinned Twi'lek woman wearing a deep burgundy dress with sleeves that went down to her elbows.
“Tickets?” the droid inquired.
“Here,” Ka said as he handed the droid two pairs of flimsi.
The droid scanned the tickets, letting out a cheerful jingle of affirmation.
“Thank you sir, enjoy the concert.”
“I'm sure we will.” Kesarah said as she leaned against Ka tenderly.
The pair surveyed the thick crowd gathering throughout the waterfront park as Ka sighed.
“I suppose we shouldn't have spent so much time on the 'thank you' part of the anniversary.” he looked at Kesarah apologetically. “Not sure how close we can get.”
Kesarah turned to him fully, draping her arms over his shoulders as she looked up at him.
“I'm not worried.” she said with a sultry smile. “I know you can get us the whole way to the front.”
Spurred on by Kesarah's confidence, Ka put his hands around her waist as he pulled her close.
“Hang on then.”
Leaning into him, Kesarah felt the telltale change in pressure accompanied by a popping in her head as her ear cones were filled the sound of rushing water. Then they were both standing in front of the stage at the very front of the gathered beings, many of whom seemed very surprised that the pair of them had appeared seemingly from thin air. Ignoring the gaping stares of those around them, Kesarah smiled up at Ka.
“You're getting very good at that.”
“You give me reason to practice.” he replied with a heavy breath as he recovered from the teleportation.
Giggling, Kesarah turned to look up at the stage as her lekku trembled with anticipatory excitement. It had been so long since she'd first seen Pull My Lekku and the fact that they were playing here in her home sent ripples of pleasure throughout her body. If the Jedi Order had forced her to miss this she'd never have forgiven them. Feeling Ka behind her only added to her anticipation as the lights in the waterfront park dimmed and the stage fell into darkness.
“I'm glad this makes you happy.” Ka murmured against her ear cone.
“You make me happy.” she replied. “But the concert helps.”
“Oley oley!”
The sudden voice silenced Kesarah and Ka's banter as their eyes both fixed on the stage where a vibrant pink female Twi'lek was standing with her hands twined together and raised above her head. She cast one arm out to one side with a flourish.
“Oley oley!”
Two more Twi'leks, one purple and another red, appeared in their own spotlights as the central pink Twi'lek extended her other hand with another flourish.
“Oley oley!”
Anther pair of spotlights came on, revealing the next two members of the group a vibrant green and a chalky brown that was almost white. The pink Twi'lek drew her hands back to herself as she held them to her chest and then raised them up, sliding to one to one side to reveal the final member of the group, a Twi'lek several shades of blue lighter than Fern.
“He~ey!”
Then the music exploded in a ripple of sound and motion as the six members began to dance.
“Baby, the way that I'm working my body
Can tell that you already like it
I make you lose your mind, go crazy,”
The six Twi'leks were in perfect sync as their motions mirrored one another's movements across the stage as their bodies moved in sinuous waves of multi-colored skin.
“Baby we don't need any music
Cause we make the beat when we moving
You know that it's making me hot, hot, hot”
The six of them snapped their fingers in quick patterns over their heads, sparks crackling outwards from them in bright flashes of light.
“We belong to the night, we belong to the music
So let's live in the moment let the freedom drive you wild
Let's light this fire up, reap the whirlwind take it up
Let me hear you screaming out loud”
Their arms moving in waving serpentine fashion, all six members knelt down as their hips and legs swayed from side to side until they were practically sitting on the stage floor. Then they were up on their feet again as an explosion of sound brought the music to a pounding roar.
“When I say go,
When I say live it
We'll take it low
Let's lose control
When I say go
We'll get it louder
Let's make it blow
Let's lose control!”
Kesarah was all but jumping on the spot as she danced amidst the other concert goers around her. The energy was intoxicating and enlivening all at once as she moved with the beat and mimicked the motions of the performance as best as she could in the confined space.
Kesa.
Ka's thoughts penetrated her mind and she frowned, ignoring him as she continued to focus on the performance. He must have realized she was too absorbed in the concert to acknowledge him because he didn't try communicating with her further. However when something cool settled around her collar she stopped and looked down in surprise. The diamonds glittered in the dancing multicolored lights of the stage, seemingly stars emblazoned around her neck as they hung on their thin silver chain.
Kesarah's heart stopped as she spun on the spot, looking up at Ka with a mixture of shock and disbelief. His deep blue gaze was fixated upon her unblinkingly, shining with reflected light as he gave her a hesitant smile.
Will you marry me? he thought with gentle hopefulness.
Her eyes widening, Kesarah stood transfixed as her mind processed what had just happened. He couldn't be serious, it had been an accident. The necklace had been an accident. She'd sensed his shock and surprise when she'd told him. This couldn't be real. Her denials raced through her mind one after another, attempting to stamp down on the feeling of warmth and happiness bubbling up inside of her as shock turned to realization.
You can say no.
The thought lanced through Kesarah's mind like a blaster bolt. She could feel the hurt that thought caused and as soon as she did she opened her thoughts to his as she threw her arms around him and kissed him passionately.
Yes. she thought happily. Yes, yes, yes!
She was distantly aware of the concert continuing around them as a new song played, the lyrics at once familiar and fitting.
“Can't you hear my heart beat slow, I can't let you go
I want you in my life
Cause every time we touch I get this feeling
And every time we kiss I swear I could fly
Can't you feel my heart beat fast, I want this to last
I need you by my side.”
And now, the grand finale!
It's nice having a little backlog to work with, certainly helps when I'm floundering a little over the holidays...speaking of holidays, I think Kesarah just had the biggest holiday in her life right there!
